Fame goes to Fleetwood Mick's head

ROCK star Mick Fleetwood normally towers head and shoulders over the people he meets.

And now the Fleetwood Mac founder's head and shoulders is causing a stir at the Royal Academy's summer exhibition.

Created by Salford-born sculptor John Humphreys, the acrylic-painted glass fibre figure was accepted for the show in London.

A big fan of Fleetwood Mac, John said he jumped at the chance after being introduced to the giant rock star by a colleague.

Sculpture

He added: ''Mick had expressed an interest in art to a colleague of mine and soon after that we met and he asked if I would make a sculpture.

''Of course I said yes - I'm a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac. I was delighted that he had asked me. It's a huge honour.''

Now John, who now lives in Clerkenwell, London, says he has received lots of commissions as a result of the success with the Mick sculpture.

He said: ''The sculpture is receiving rave reviews and praise as a striking visual artwork. The Royal Academy is very prestigious for me and my work has received some great reviews.

''It's a super-realistic piece. I stretched the image in 3D so that when you look at it, you're hit by an optical illusion, which is interesting to look at.''

John has done work on major television productions, including special effects for the film Rob Roy and BBC's The Young Ones.

His work at the Royal Academy is on show until the end of this month.
