BUCKINGHAM GRINDS HIS AX THROUGH PAIN

Thom Smith

Stevie Nicks can swirl shawls with the best of them; nevertheless at Fleetwood Mac's show at Coral Sky, she was fat and flat. And spike the rumor that she almost sprained an ankle when she fell off her boots at the sound check.

Lindsey Buckingham provided the passion, flailing through his numbers like an ax murderer. He was so intense that during the final number, Go Your Own Way, he cut his hand and needed stitches. Not serious, though. He was OK on Sunday at the Orlando show.

Funny how a couple of names can make such a big change. Fleetwood Mac was last through here in May 1995. But instead of Buckingham and Nicks at SunFest, the band included British rock legend Dave Mason and youngsters Billy Burnette and Bekka Bramlett. They rode in a van, stayed at the Omni Hotel and ate at Narcissus (now Pescatore). This time the entourage took 40 rooms at The Breakers and traveled in eight limos plus assorted vans.
