Under the Skin

Reprise, pounds 12.99

The former guitarist and singer with Fleetwood Mac has made his first solo album in more than a decade, and it's a peculiar, dream-like thing: stripped back and largely acoustic, almost entirely self-performed, and featuring some fantastic guitar picking. Trailing across it like a snake through the desert is Buckingham's dry, raspy voice, which requires heavy treatment to mask its weakness - hence the dreamy quality of many of the songs.

A strange and imperfect album, certainly, but powerful and honest, too.
