Fleetwood Mac Plays for Clinton at White House

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rock group Fleetwood Mac reunited at the White House with a surprise performance for President Clinton at the weekend, playing the song that became a signature of his 1992 race, "Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow.)"

Current and former political aides attended the Saturday night farewell party for Clinton and his political staff, complete with skits and videos, held on the South Lawn of the White House, officials said.

Lindsey Buckingham, guitarist and co-founder [sic] of Fleetwood Mac, said Hillary Rodham Clinton was able to keep the group's presence a secret by persuading her husband to go on a tour of the National Zoo to see the new giant panda cubs so the band could do their sound check at the White House.

The band had been on hand to celebrate Clinton's inauguration in 1993.

"We were there to usher in his administration, and it was an emotional thing to help see it off," Buckingham said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles.

The popular 1970s rock group no longer tours together, but reunited in 1997 for a concert tour and CD release. Saturday's reunion did not include Christine McVie. Buckingham said she has moved back to England.

The group, originally formed in London in 1967 with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie making up the rhythm section, also played "Go Your Own Way", "Dreams", "Landslide" and "Gypsy," at the White House.
