The Arizona Republic, Sunday June 7, 1998

Issues of the heart hit home for Stevie Nicks.  That's why the sensitive singer is donating 25 cents from each ticket sold on her current tour to the Arizona Heart Institute Foundation's capital campaign.  The money will help build a research and education center on the Arizona Heart Hospital campus in Phoenix.  Her dad, Jess Nicks, tells us why Stevie's doing this: "I've had open-heart surgery twice, her uncle had open-heart surgery twice, her mother had open-heart surgery once, and her grandmother died of heart disease.  She's a prime candidate for heart disease."  Jess is chairman of the International Council for the Heart Institute.  Stevie Nicks will be performing July 23 at America West Arena. (Boz Scaggs is sharing the bill.)  Maybe she'll sing Landslide.  The song was written the night before her dad was operated on at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.  "It's about a father-daughter relationship," said Nicks, who lives in Paradise Valley.
