Christine McVie
In The Meantime
by David Chiu

As much as I liked Fleetwood Mac's most recent album Say You Will, it just wasn't the same without Christine McVie. Those who missed her presence can rejoice in this new album, her first solo album in 20 years. In the Meantime doesn't break new lyrical or stylistic ground as McVie still pens her melodic love songs with elements of pop, soul, and blues. Songs like "Friend," "Northern Star," and "Anything Is Possible" have a winsome appeal supported by McVie's signature alto voice and sparkling keyboard work. In contrast to the excellent if glossy Christine McVie album (1984), In the Meantime sounds low-keyed, and is better for it; it's a gorgeous record of love reaffirmed and renewed. She may not be in Fleetwood Mac anymore but Christine McVie is not ready to be put out to pasture yet.
